monday music: seabear

Today seems like the perfect day to showcase Seabear's soft, dreamy, indie pop. Most of their songs manage to make me feel happy and wistful all at the same time, and I'm the sort of person who likes that. Also, they're from Iceland, and that's just cool. They're latest album is entitled "We Built a Fire" and I think you should check it out. Here's two videos to give you an idea of what they sound like.

pressed

Lately I've been feeling a big surge of creative energy. So much so that I have trouble falling asleep because my mind is churning with new ideas! I think I owe these new ideas in large part to the class I've been doing each Saturday since the beginning of the month. The boy and I have been making the trek to Providence weekly for a letterpress class at AS220. These lovely pictures of our adventures were taken by the boy.

We decided to do it on a whim but I'm so glad we did! It was great meeting new people and getting our hands dirty with ink. It can be a really intricate process and it's definitely got me thinking of designs in a new way.

(This is the type we set for our first class. It took much longer than you'd think.)

The day after our second class we were strolling through the local flea market and I happened to spot a table filled with Dover art books. I can't even tell you how gleeful I felt. Page upon page of beautiful, black and white, copyright free images for us to use! We left with a bunch of them, but I think my favorite is the book of animals.

I must admit I'm feeling a bit glum to be headed to work this Saturday instead of Providence, but we plan on going back and using the studio by ourselves soon. In the meantime, I'm busy leafing through our books and plotting new card layouts, poster designs and more. I'll leave you with a few pictures of the cards I made during the class.

for the seaside...

I know I promised a different sort of post today, but the light faded away before I could get the pictures I needed. Instead, I bring you a hat. A hat I wish were my own.

I found it today while browsing the Anthropologie sale room and tried it on for fun. I don't usually like hats on myself, but this one worked for some reason. The picture really doesn't do it justice. It sits at a rather jaunty angle and would be perfect for a day at the beach. I may have to go back for it...

to mark your place

Over the weekend the boy and I found ourselves with a little bit of time on our hands and a whole lot of scrap paper. So we pulled out our stamp collection and got creative. These bookmarks are the result and we had so much fun making them! It's been a while since I've done a small art project like this, taking time to doodle and play with no specific end goal in mind. It made me want to shop for all sorts of fun stamps and colorful ink pads.

P.S. I plan on posting tomorrow about just how we ended up with all these paper scraps. It's something I'm very excited about!

monday music: gotan project

Just a quick music post today. I don't really think that there's anything I can say about this Gotan Project song that isn't expressed perfectly in the video below. I first watched it years ago and was immediately captivated. It's been used in several dance movies that I've watched since then, but I think this original version is the best interpretation of the complexity and passion in the song. Doesn't it make you want to take a dance lesson or two?

easter images...

I realize that Easter was over a week ago now, but I still wanted to share some of my pictures since it was such a fun and festive day.

In the past Easter has been more of a "traditional" holiday for my family, involving long car rides and rushing through the day. But now we prefer to take a more laid back approach. We had an amazing waffle breakfast with friends and family and then spent the rest of the day coloring eggs, visiting with the rabbits, and lounging in the sun. It may be my favorite Easter yet.

a walk into grey

Last week, when everything was still grey and rainy, Deb and I took a little walk to see how big the river had gotten. Bits of green were popping up everywhere thanks to all the wet, and the path beside the house had turned into a stream.

I was certainly glad when the sun finally came out, but our misty little walk was enjoyable in its own way.

monday music: delorean

Today has been a long day for me, and entirely too much of it was spent indoors instead of out in the lovely sun. Consequently, this week's music post will be short and sweet. I barely know anything about this band, I just saw the video and it made me feel kind of happy and summery. That's enough for me right now. Tonight, this little spot of bright was just what I needed before going to bed. I hope you enjoy it as well!

P.S. I have been slow with the posting lately, but I have a whole bunch of images and news from this past weekend that I'm excited to share with you over the next few days.
