monday music: metric

I haven't listened to the new Metic album in full yet, but I did find this gem of a video from NPR. I just love her voice. Now I can't wait to listen to Synthetica all the way through.

scenes of a summer

I can't even tell you how many times I thought to myself I should write a blog post about this! over the summer. It happened a lot. But then my computer was acting up and there was vacation to plan for and that next batch of jam to make and weeding out the garden... always weeding. Turns out I do the least amount of blogging when I'm out there doing the most blog-worthy things.

Anyway, I finally got around to scanning a few (only a few mind you) of the rolls of film I shot this summer. I like looking at these pictures. Especially now when it's suddenly turning cold in the mornings and the leaves are looking tired. It's nice to have all that green and all those berries captured on film. And it reminds me of how much we did this summer! Although the cupboard full of jam is also a good reminder.

a glimpse

These are just a few of the pictures I took while we were away. They're not my favorites (those will be scanned later), but they provide a glimpse of our beach wanderings.

book love

We're getting ready to go on vacation. It's very exciting and very much needed. I'm looking forward to long beach days and good food and much reading. In fact I started planning which books to bring a few weeks ago, prompting the Boy to say, "You're just like the girl from Moonrise Kingdom!" It is indeed a possibility that I will be bringing a suitcase of books with me.

The books that Suzy reads were one of my favorite details in the movie, so I was happy to find this short film that explains a bit more about them.

Have you seen the movie yet? I think it's one of my favorites.

june days

June is going by quickly. The garden is green and full of peas and we are fighting (and sometimes losing) a battle against the weeds.

I have been making things. Jam and cheese and baked goods.

We went strawberry picking on Monday. Berries are tricky. I always wonder if we've gotten enough, but we made a double batch of jam and froze a whole big bag of them and then I made a pie and we STILL have a huge box taking up space in the fridge. I'm not complaining, but it turns into something of a race against time, trying to find things to do with them before they go bad. We still have more jam making to do.

I have finally reopened my shop. There are only a few scarves there right now, but other items should be up soon.

monday music: they might be giants

I heard this song over the weekend and have found myself humming it ever since. The boy and I actually went to a They Might Be Giants show a few months back and had a great time, even though we hadn't heard much of their music before. This was one of my favorite songs they played.

the best part of may...

Tis the season for strawberry rhubarb. I made a my favorite crumble recipe yesterday, and I can't wait to have it in pie. I could live off this stuff.

monday music: johnny flynn & laura marling

Hello Monday! I'm very happy about this week's music. I heard this song while watching the trailer for this movie. It looks like the sort of film I'd really like to see and the song is AMAZING. Just the sort of beautiful, angsty little tune that I'm always drawn to. I've been a fan of Laura Marling for quite some time, but Johnny Flynn is new to me and I'm definitely going to check out more of his music.

in a day

A few weeks ago we drove to Albany. How was it so long ago already? Anyway, the boy and I were participating in the Roll In A Day project on flickr, so I thought I'd share my shots from the day. It was a fun exercise, to rush your way through a whole roll of film. It meant that some shots were blurry or not very well thought out, but that was our day! Full of food, tea, tying shoelaces and tagging the city with Figurehead stickers. Duds and all.
