bedroom inspiration #1

Lately, I have been searching the internet for design inspiration. I'm going to be moving at some point this summer and I'm delighted to have the chance to create a new space for myself. The best part has been dreaming up a new bedroom. Here is one of many photographs that have been inspiring me.

monday music: bat for lashes

Bat for Lashes second album is full of exploration into dual personalities, love, pain, and mysticism. If you enjoyed Fur and Gold, I highly recommend checking Two Suns out.

Daniel is the first single off of the album. And yes, that is Daniel from The Karate Kid. Just in case you were wondering.

fun with clothes...

Sometimes I'm hit very suddenly with crazy clothing urges. Like this morning, when I woke up with the strange idea that it would be awesome to have a little jumpsuit to lounge about in this summer. And then I started fooling around on Polyvore and it started seeming not so crazy after all.

new boots bliss

I have been lusting after these Frye boots for I can't even tell you how long. Finally last week I gave in and ordered them. So. Happy. They came this morning and I didn't even wait to get changed out of my pajamas before putting them on. They are everything I've been looking for and it was totally worth the splurge.

monday music: the decemberists

Last week I was, sadly, feeling too uninspired to make a music post. Sometimes nothing really captures you fancy. But this week I am happy to report that I am so excited about the album I'm recommending today that I've been planning out my post in advance!

The Decemberists new album is called The Hazards of Love and is out now on Capitol. It is different than anything they've done before which will, no doubt, cause a love/hate relationship with the album for many f
ans. I am firmly on the love side of things. Hazards of Love is a rock opera of sorts, telling the story of young Margaret, her lover William, his sinister forest queen mother, and a most awful rake. The songs blend together seamlessly creating an epic drama that plays out in true Decemberists fashion. One of the highlights here are the guest vocalists. Jenny Stark of Lavender Diamond Voices Margaret, and Shara Warden of My Brightest Diamond voices the forest queen.

You can check out a song from the album here, though I think it is best appreciated as a whole. For someone like me who has always enjoyed The Decemberists in vast part because they are wonderful storytellers, this album is a dream.

breakfast: german pancake

This is what I had for breakfast this morning.

Two nights ago I woke up from a dream about eating a German pancake and knew I had to find a recipe to make one. It was basically like the largest, most delicious popover imaginable. Really good with maple syrup. Of course, in my dream it was also shaped like a dog... but the dreamworld is a funny place! Check out the recipe.

wishing

Getting even more snow today has me thinking about things like this.

I'm ready for spring.

monday music: great lake swimmers

Much to my delight, Great Lake Swimmers have a new CD coming out on March 31st. I've already had the privilege of listening to it and would highly recommend giving this a listen. Lost Channels is a beautiful mix of of delicate and haunting, hope and yearning. I also hear tell that they like recording in unexpected places such as castles and old churches. How neat is that?

Here is something to hold you over while you wait for the new album. Your Rocky Spine is my favorite song off of Ongiara.

an abundance of citrus

One of the things I am missing most about Florida (besides the beautiful weather) is fresh orange and grapefruit juice in the morning. We made it home with six full bags of grapefruit and still plenty more left on the tree in the backyard. I think if I lived someplace warm I would have so many fruit trees.

monday music: franz ferdinand

(photo from their website)

While I like their new album, I think this song is still my favorite. And I love the video too.

I thought to post this because I was listening to their first cd quite a bit this past week while driving around Florida. I had a lovely little vacation and hope to have some pictures up soon.
