friday and things i like

Despite the lovely (and unseasonable) weather of this past week, I'm glad that it's coming to a close. Changing weather and clocks makes me toss and turn at night. I am looking forward to Sunday, when I will finally be able to sleep in.

For now, here are some things I like.

I just splurged and ordered this swimsuit. Hopefully it looks as nice in person.

This piece on creating a tea ritual. It inspires me to take more time with my own morning cup. Speaking of that....

We just bought this tin of tea. It has such nice packaging!

These sunglasses.

I've been experimenting with sourdough. I have two starters sitting in my refrigerator. I've named them Fanny and Theo. This popover recipe and this waffle recipe were both highly successful.

In case there weren't enough mentions of food in this post, I thought I'd mention how awesome this book looks.

Kate wrote a great post about why you should pay attention to where your eggs come from. You should check it out.

That is all. Next week I shall be back with more film and, hopefully, tales of planting peas in the garden.

aftermath

(top photo by the boy. bottom photo by me.)

Ice storms can be scary, messy things, but the aftermath is something entirely different. My ride in to work the past two mornings has been stunning. Every branch and twig is covered in a layer of ice, and when the sun shines... oh. All the forests have become silver and magical. I wished that my rides were taking me someplace different, where I could walk in the woods and listen to the trees bend inside their casings. All this may sound silly and overly poetic, but it's nice to find something beautiful and exciting about this time of year, when winter is wearing thin.

So here we are at Friday, and these are the things I'm thinking about.

The two new albums I just bought on vinyl. So excited to give them both a listen.

These pictures have me dreaming of far off places and dream vacations.

I have almonds soaking in the kitchen so that tomorrow I can make homemade almond milk for the first time. Since I've been trying lately to go mostly-kinda-sometimes-almost-vegan, almond milk is my favorite thing to put in tea. Here's hoping the homemade version tastes good too.

I really like this dress.

The cookbook I just added to my collection is full of delicious recipes and I can't wait to try them.

The big question of the night in our house is what sort of weather tomorrow will bring. Snow? A wintry mix? More ice? We shall see.

Happy weekend!

friday pondering

make tracks

December got off to a very rainy start, but today temperatures dropped and it's suddenly feeling quite like winter. I am planning holiday projects that must be kept under wraps, but here are a few things that are on my mind that I can share.

It's cold, but there's no sign of snow yet. I am looking at pictures like this, and this, and this to hold me over.

This scarf looks super cozy and warm.

I am reading (and loving) this book.

Lately, I've been seeing all sorts of recipes for pumpkin pancakes that make my mouth water.

I am loving the look of these DIY mason jar lights.

These hand warmers make me want to pick up my knitting needles.

I have one more day of work, but my mind is already drifting to Sunday, and our weekly Farmer's Market trip. I'm also hoping to maybe go find a Christmas tree. Happy weekend!
